[The sound opens up into some state of alarm, footsteps clattering around, birds squawking in concern, a nurse paging a doctor... and a flat sounding heart rate monitor. It's honestly just a lot of audio chaos for a good minute, some static even interrupting a nervous, higher pitched chirping from a bird. More rushed footsteps, and a sharp zap sound... well. Electricity always did prompt noise out of him. Vanitas lets out a yell, but it sounded slightly muffled, followed by harsh coughing that was also muffled. The monitor picked up again just before that yell at least, so it's at least apparent he's not dead?

Some hushed voices were speaking just too inaudible to pick up, but the Gear was getting shoved and moved around again, until the video feed flickered on from in the bed-bound kids bed, a little Swablu fluttering to snuggle under Vanitas' chin as carefully as she could. He was stuck with a breathing tube and mask over his nose and mouth, giving the doctor across the room quite the groggy, nasty look. Unaware of the video feed going on in his lap, showing him in such a state, his expression soon relaxed into something quieter until he seemed to spot something off screen, making a gruntish noise.

It caught a nurses attention, since one stepped over to see what the problem was. Lifting his hand slowly, he gave a disgusted look at the IV in the back of his hand before pointing at something off screen again.]

Oh, those? They were dropped off for you earlier, but you were still sleeping.

[Furrowing his eyebrows, he turned his head just slightly with an honestly confused look. Working his mouth a little around the tube, Vanitas just looked cranky again in that when he tried to talk, words just didn't work today -- does he even realize he has a tube in his mouth? He just seems that out of it.]

They're Valentine's day chocolates, sir!

[Yeah, his previously confused look is returning, but he's too tired to care anymore outside of that, with his eyes drooping closed again. Swablu gives a soft, worried chirp when she sees this, but the nurse thinks he's satisfied with those answers and walks away as the feed times out.]


(ooc: FEEL FREE TO YAK AT HIM. He's not really supposed to go to sleep again so soon after that hurr BUT IF ANYTHING, his pokemans will warble at you. Swablu is the only one light enough to be allowed to hang out literally ON him right now is all.)

[It's a shame the video is only clattering on now, since the reaction to something cracking in his bag was pretty darn funny. There were some snow smears on the PokeGear from where it was laying on the ground, but something much more interesting was caught on camera.

Something with little flashes of yellow and blue was running around, climbing all over Vanitas, and he was doing quite a hilarious looking dance of sorts in trying to catch the creature. He is clearly not fast enough, and the little blur eventually stops by -- hanging onto the back of his head.

Making an angry, irritable sound, he actually lets his arms hang down in defeat ?!?!?!?!, snapping his attention to the laughing-crowing bird in the sky somewhere above the PokeGear.]

Shut up!

[Don't you love those cute blue ears Vanitas is now sporting? They twitched, and when his head turned, there is clearly a Minun hanging onto the back of that helmet, looking all mischevious and happy. How cute, Vanitas made a friend.]

relationships

Ventus Vanitas harbored a bit of resentment at being rejected on their heart splitting, but the longer he's here in Johto, the more stable he seems to get. When Ventus had an accident in Mt. Mortar, it scared Vanitas to a point where he will be doing whatever he can to avoid letting Ven be an idiot and get himself hurt again. Vanitas knows he's in there. These two have really had their ups and downs. Ventus doesn't remember anymore, but when he had nearly a relationship with a girl, Vanitas flipped his lid. Literally. He destroyed Ven's room and threatened Rise with nasty words. When she disappeared from this world, he honestly was glad. Vanitas didn't know how to deal with Ventus forming such a close bond like that, and it was good. It really was. Over time though, part of him felt guilty. Why can't he deal with that? It's just feelings. Emotions, those warm thoughts in the heart that drive a person to do good things. It really led to Vanitas softening up, at least a little, and letting people into his heart. Friends were always such a taboo, something Master Xehanort had ingrained in him the moment he was "born", that they can be used against you. It took a long time until Vanitas could really understand just how true it could be, but at the same time, see that it's what makes the person stronger. Strong enough for Ventus to want to shatter his own heart instead of see them potentially die by his own hand. It's been a long time coming, but Vanitas and Ventus can finally be called "friends". Pretty good friends. Enough where they can trust one another. At least, Vanitas gets that feeling. He understands now, why Ventus did what he did. It was out of their control on when they were separated, so he can't hold Ven accountable anymore, let alone hate him for it. He may have lost the ability to create Unversed and wield his keyblade, but Vanitas has gained more power through his connections with people than he ever thought possible. It's all thanks to Ventus encouraging him to be his own person. (10)

Riku Vanitas is pretty used to the guy. A little grateful he sticks with Ventus, since Terra and Aqua have come and gone enough times that he knows it's taken a bit of a toll on his lighter half. Vanitas and Riku still don't really get along, but they can have pretty civil conversations when it comes to raising Pokemon. He still thinks Riku runs his mouth, but Vani can't deny that the Pokemon he's raised are rough and tumble and it wouldn't be easy to beat him. After he's got all of his Kanto badges, he might think about taking Riku on.. (3)

Heather Mason Heather is definintely one of the more unique people that Vanitas has had the opportunity to meet. She taught him curse words, she's crass and tomboyish and that darkness with her is so refreshing. Heather isn't even out to do anything, and with their scuffles and the strangely intense expressions she gets, he doesn't put it past her to really go with her darkness. Vanitas rather likes their conversations, as they usually turn out funny, but even the un-funny ones wind up interesting in some form. Their latest conversations while Heather was recovering from the loss of some very dear friends were a bit of a change, for Vanitas. Used to seeing her snark and fire, he found himself simply listening and being ... there. It's hard to describe any feelings, but he doesn't really want to see her look like that again.(5)

Beato The first person he's really acknowledged the term "friend" to. It is endlessly strange to him that she accepted him the way she did, but their conversations have stuck deep in him. While she still seems so weak and naive to him, Vanitas keeps an eye out for her. Someone has to, or she'll get lost in a cave again. He considers her a good friend, a confidant, but lately they haven't spoke as much. Whether it's from her being busy with her tea house, and he being all the way in Kanto, he's not too sure.. but he misses talking with her. Even about inane things, like the different blends of tea and how they can be compatible with different snacks. (6)

Karkat Vantas Interesting, to say the least. Vanitas finds a fair bit in common with this guy, enough that he wants to learn more about trolls and their world. Plus, he's got quite the uh.. repertoire in vocabulary; Van learns a new word every time he opens his mouth, and it's usually something foul. Learning vocab lessons from Karkat is unreasonably hilarious, at this point. It's mostly troll language, but hey, cursing in a different language makes everything good, right? Currently, Vanitas is traveling with him and it's surprisingly fun, going places with people you get along with. Sure, there's still bickering, but it's not actual fighting; just complaining and grouching at each other for amusement. Which is kind of awesome, because it's not a relationship Vanitas has been able to ever have before. Arguing with someone always meant bad things; now he gets that it's normal to have heated debates and arguments, and still be friends. Vanitas is going to suckerpunch Karkat every time he thinks of himself as a defective freak though. He knows where that path leads, and likes him enough to not want him to go down it any further than he already has. Karkat is the only really close friend he has that's another guy, so Vani is most at ease around him. He can't pass out anymore or Vanitas panics. In a table flipping, room destroying manner. It really scared him when Vanitas realized he wasn't waking up, and he wound up re-evaluating his emotions. Karkat really is his best friend, undeniably. Vanitas kind of understands what Ventus meant now, on giving up so much to protect his friends... Actually, now? It's more than that. From Rikku giving him a heads up on possibly having a "crush", and that the feelings associated with a crush are what were pretty true concerning Karkat, Vanitas brought it up with him. And then passed out for two weeks, but it was time Karkat was able to use to think on it. It led into Vanitas' favor, in the end, because they're now a couple in the stages of ~*~dating~*~! Vanitas has made several promises in the past that he won't leave and he won't let anyone hurt him. CAN HE KEEP THEM? FIND OUT NEXT TIME ON -- oh okay I'm done.(10)

Atsuro Kihara An interesting guy who likes funny video games too. Atsuro taught Vanitas how to hack Gears to leave rickroll images (whyyy), and they've had a few good long conversations. It's enough that Vanitas is curious to know more about the guy. (4)

Rose Lalonde Meeting after Karkat snapped his shoulder and popped it back into place, Vani and Rose had a good conversation on.. well. The art of trolling. Time to see some movies and lol and make fun of everything, yup! They still don't talk all that often, but the last time they did, it was about Karkat. And how he's cute. And Vanitas can say it with a straight face, not realizing just how damn embarrassing it is. GOOD JOB ROSE! (5)

Rikku Kind of a "dumb blond", though he won't call her that to her face. She reminds Vanitas a little of Ventus in being optimistic, always a glass-half-full kind of person. Rikku is... alright, kind of too bouncy for him to deal with in long periods of time; but she did get concerned when he spilled the story of his creation. He didn't tell it to get that attention, but she offered to listen if he ever needed to talk. He might just take her up on that. She's the one who pointed out that Vanitas might have a crush on Karkat, after she caught them TOTALLY SNUGGLING in bed. When it was really just a pre-arranged matter of sharing the bed because one or the other can't sleep without holding onto the other. But it's thanks to her that they got any sort of start at all, so Vanitas... should thank her. At some point. (4)

Sora While the first Sora he knew had wished Vanitas would never leave Johto... well. It didn't change, when Vanitas confronted this Sora on the same question. What he got was something he didn't really expect to hear, something nice, and honestly? Vanitas wasn't sure what to do with it. Which sums up his relationship to Sora. He doesn't really know what to do with the boy he shares the face of. He's friendly, almost as dumb-friendly as Ventus always was, but Sora is more friendly. They've been talking a bit on and off, and while Vanitas doesn't particularly have any resentment towards him, he wonders what Sora really thinks about this matter of Vanitas wearing his face. He joked, saying it would be awesome for halloween, but that's not what Vani means when he thinks about it. They're connected through Ventus, but it doesn't mean they know much about each other. (4)

Kairi A princess of heart. He met her before, but she doesn't remember. She's also a few years older this time around. It's not that big of a deal though, and she doesn't seem to have changed much outside. Kairi still treats Vanitas rather nicely despite being confused about his face resembling Sora's so much. They talk on and off and for now, it's fine as it is. All that light makes him uncomfortable, unsure of what to really say or do. (2)

Terra Part of Vanitas knows that he's really just jealous that Ventus had people to care for him, to raise him without hurting him... but Vanitas still doesn't like Terra much. Jealous that he never had a brother figure, and that Ventus' would likely never accept him. He's sure Terra still trusts him about as far as he could throw him, and that the throwing would come first. Still. There's that small part of Vanitas that wants Terra to be his older brother figure. It's not something he'll likely ever admit to though, let alone pursue. (1)

Sollux Captor Karkat's close friend from Alternia. He remembers the blind, not-lisping version, and actually likes this one a bit more. Except he's mouthy and bratty, and Vani wants to just... sucker punch him in the gut half the time; the arguing is good though. It's downright fun. The guy is alright, even if he doesn't know him all that well yet. (4)

Eridan Ampora A "princess" who can't shut up long enough to see just how much of a bag of dicks he's being. Vanitas tolerated the previous one because he was with Karkat in a matespriteship, which Vani understood as being a couple. Previous one didn't like working and it was something that always bothered him, but again, wasn't his business. When he left and Vanitas took care of Karkat, and meets this version? He's not letting Karkat get wound up with that. Plus, the guy is screwing himself over by not seeing how stupid his actions on the meteor were. Destroying the item that would save their race, on top of being a complete asswipe? Vanitas would be more likely to throw Eridan off a cliff than extend a helping hand. He's worthless and not fit to even scrape the dirt off Vani's boots at this point. Maybe, just maybe, if he quit being so blind to his actions, Vanitas might give him advice on where to find good water type Pokemon. But nope, not right now. Bag. Of. Dicks.
