Nhhhhhh!

[A medium pitched whine is what opens the feed up today, big yellow eyes frowning childishly into the screen. That is definitely Vanitas' face, but he's looking a little... off. While the face hogs the screen, there's a continuous sound of metal clashing on metal in the background, but Vanitas doesn't seem to be paying any attention to it. Instead, he's starting to make a few silly faces!

Crossing his eyes and sticking out his tongue, then wiggling his eyebrows and blowing a raspberry, he's just amusing the hell out of himself, judging from the chittering chuckles. Jerking with a surprised yelp a moment later though, there's a large puff of smoke with the gear clattering on the ground.

Black and red streaks away before Vanitas is picking up the gear again with a very solid scowl.]

Do you know what sort of things he likes? Hobbies and stuff.

Well! My current thought was either a book of lore for this region or a book about the ruins near Violet, but I'm not sure those are really...exciting?

I really only know that he enjoys ruins, too.

You could look into books about Ecruteak. There are a ton more legends there than in Violet, even if there aren't any ruins. There's an old burnt tower and a handful of cool sounding legends though.

Maybe think about what you need while in a ruins; ropes, harnesses, helmets, that sort of junk.

I'm not sure if burnt towers might be in bad taste or not, all things considered. [ It sounds cool, but maybe humans are sensitive about brushes with danger and death in towers that almost burn down? She's trying to be culturally sensitive, which is hard! ]

Hm, well, I'm really good at that sort of thing. I need to get a lot of it myself, although I don't really have a lot of money right now. I basically spent my last bit of money on a winter coat and things; Karkat said to get weather-appropriate clothes. [ She also got practical stuff like travel cookware.

Yes it is swaddled up in a blanket of course it is. She has been treating this thing like blown glass. It is her baby and she watches it and makes copious notes while Roxy tells her to go to sleep already. ] One of the first things I did was acquire this; it is going to be a Shellos, although you can't tell at this stage which gender.

Nice. I can't say I've heard of a Shellos yet, so I can't give any details. I've seen my fair share of eggs though, even though I'm no breeder.

[Eggs are starting to become a point for him. Vanitas has hatched and raised several of his best Pokemon at this point.]

It's a slug-like pokemon, and a water type! [ It will be her first of that type, and a source of fresh water! According to Rose, anyway.

Also she is hatching it herself. She'd played Fiduspawn before and had gotten excited over those creatures, but for some reason this is a little bit different. Maybe because the pokemon seem so much more...personable? Like there's a little troll in there. Or a little human. ]

But according to my math, the egg should hatch on December 1st... [ ...otherwise known as the day of the party. So. ]

That must be why; I haven't collected any water type Pokemon yet.

[BUT EVERY EGG DADDY KNOWS THE BEST WAY TO KEEP EGGS ON HAND.] You can find egg holsters that strap to your chest. There might be a catalogue in the centers, or you can just ask one of the Nurses. They might have some available.

Rose suggested it! She says having one on hand means a good source of fresh water.

[ Which is...mostly all about the breeding aspect. Well, there's stuff about eggs, but she did not see anything about egg holsters! ] I'll look into that!!

Yeah? They're somewhat new from all the breeders that have been showing up. Only other tips I guess are to keep them warm, whether they're on you or wrapped in blankets. Some fire types can speed up the incubation period, but I don't know what sort of ability it was called.

Hmmm. I think Hiccup mentioned that - a slugma his friend had could do that? [ She's not entirely clear on it but she wrote it down and will be looking into that like whoa. ]

It's pretty different from Fiduspawn, but I think I'm going to enjoy this a lot! Although there are a few people who aren't here, nearly everyone is.

Right, it was a Slugma. You could talk to him to find out who the trainer was, and then ask them where to find one.

Fiduspawn? [Though now that makes him curious.] Everyone from your world?

That's a really good idea - I'll have to do that! Or maybe my pokedex might have information?

Yeah! It's a card game back on Alternia. You each get a hand of cards, and then you throw an Oogonibomb to hatch a Fidusucker, and then you need a Host Plush, and eventually you'll breed your Fiduspawn! [ It's more complex than that but she's pretty sure humans don't play it at all, although this Pokemon breeding is...similar, in some ways. ] Tavros was really good at it.

And yes, I mean the others I played the game with. Right now...Kanaya, Tavros, Feferi, and Terezi aren't here.

You can check. It might not have locations, but you could ask around for that part. [Going to listen a bit intently though; some names are familiar, some aren't.]

Karkat has mentioned Kanaya. I've heard the name Tavros just through the network, nothing about Feferi or Terezi. Can you tell me a bit about them? And the game. I've heard it talked about but never really explained what this game was.

Tavros was my teammate before the game; we used to flarp together - that's a kind of live-action roleplaying - against Terezi and Vriska, back before the teams broke up. [ She'll just. Skip mentioning the paralyzation of Tavros and her own death for the moment, because wow Vani probably doesn't need a crash course on revenge cycles and the complexities that is their team. ] He's really good with animals; a nice guy. He's dead in my timeline, but we hang out sometimes still!

Feferi's a seadweller. She's the empress-in-waiting to the empire - she would have had to challenge the current Empress for her position when she came of age, if we hadn't played the game. We never had much to do with one another, really, since we lived pretty far apart. She and Sollux were quadranted, though! Actually, from his timeline he should be from that time with her. She and Eridan used to be moirails, too, but she broke it off when the game started.

Then...Terezi. I knew her better than Feferi, since we used to play together. She once gave me good advice that I ignored, with...disastrous results, although they were necessary. She's smart. Funny. Blind, too, but she can taste colours to see. She and Karkat were pretty close before the meteor left.

[ She's going to pause for questions before going into the game. Because. That is going to take a bit of explaining. ]

So there really is a variance in the troll species, other than just blood colors. Fins or no fins. Were the blood colors the same for the seadwellers, or could they have anything? [More curious about that bit, since there's landwellers who hate water ~~aka Karkat screaming in the lake of rage~~ and seadwellers who actually live in it. It's the last bit that has him quirking an eyebrow.]

Oh, yes! Seadwellers are only really fuschia and violet-bloods. The colder your colour, the longer your life-span, too; the warmer your blood colour, the shorter. I'm - rather, I was a burgundyblood, the shortest. ...Well, I'm not sure how long Karkat's would have been, but he's not really on the spectrum, so.

Yes, but that would've been nearly an entire sweep ago. They shared a keyboard once! In retrospect that was pretty funny, although I didn't care when it happened.

[Thinking on that and storing the thought for later, Vanitas scratches his chin a little.] A sweep is about two years, right? I guess that is a pretty long time.
