43 // fml audio/action??

[The audio flickers on just in time, cutting out the end of a crash of something going in the room. There's nothing to see, no, but there's plenty to hear. Someone is breathing hard, like he's been doing way too much heavy lifting or other activity for a long time. There isn't anyone moving to pick up the gear though, because the footsteps trudge around and violently slam things around, and it's only after another good ten minutes of things getting shoved and thrown around that the gear gets batted around until it flips and the video is flicked on.

There sits an Espeon, one who may look familiar to those who knew Ven, and he just flicks his tails. While normally silent, the things going on behind him have him tilting his body aside to give a view of the room; well, what used to be the room. It looks totally trashed. Bed flipped, shelves yanked out, everything is just thrown everywhere and there's Vanitas, sitting in the mess like a child.]

Someone collect him.

[John doesn't recognize the Espeon, but he's pretty sure that's Vanitas and Karkat's room. So he doesn't waste a lot of time in heading that way from his own room, knocking on the door once he reaches it. Chandel the Lampent is right at his side, giving the door a curious glance as John calls out:]

Karkat? Vanitas? Everything okay in there?

[The door opens courtesy of the same Espeon now, and Sylph simply walks his way silently across to nudge at his "new" trainers arm. Karkat's bed is untouched, and Karkat himself is completely passed out; the rest of the room is completely trashed, moreso visible now that the door is open rather than through a video screen.

Vanitas doesn't budge from his seated place on the floor, half hunched with his face tucked into his legs.]

Uh...thanks. [He addresses the Espeon even though it's not sticking around to talk. Not that John can really blame him. He takes a step into the room, taking a glance at everything in doing so.]

Yeah, so I'm going to take all this as a resounding "no" to answer that question. [He pushes the door closed behind him, taking a few more steps closer to the figure on the floor.] What happened? I mean...aside from Karkat passing out I guess?

[If he slept through Vanitas destroying the room the this extent, obviously he's in a coma. That's really all that can be said here. But somehow that doesn't seem like quite enough to drive Vanitas to the point of getting this upset. He's been here longer than John, after all, he should know by now that this is nothing to worry about. Hell, this isn't even the first time Karkat has done it.]

[It takes a long, slow passing few moments to breath in and quietly exhale, breath shaky. Lifting his head just enough to get two words out, he sets it back into place easily.]

Ventus left.

[John fidgets a little while waiting but doesn't rush Vanitas. He'll talk when he's ready and not a moment before so John will just have to wait as patiently as possible.]

Oh. [Aaaand bingo, called it. Something else was wrong. John's silent for a minute or two as he tries to remember exactly who Ventus was. He knows he never met the guy, but the name sounds familiar. He's pretty sure Vanitas has mentioned him before. What was it again? It didn't make a whole lot of sense...]

[Ah! That's right.]

He was your other half, right?

Yeah. [His voice is a small croak and on lowering his legs enough to wipe at his face now, he moves one hand to carefully pet Sylph at his side.]

[Well shit. John rubs at his upper arm a little, shifting once again as he tries to think of what to say to that.]

I'm sorry, man. Do...you want to talk about it?

[Quiet, he gives a half shrug. He doesn't know what there is to say, but if Karkat was awake he would be talking with him. So for now, he nods finally and starts to get up, giving a very half hearted kick to the trash bin by his foot.]

I never thought he would go, I guess. It was always a thing that could be, but it hadn't for so long.

Oh...one of those. [Suddenly he's having Jade and Vriska flashbacks. He looks up and offers Vanitas a small smile.]

I really don't know what to tell you aside from the fact that I understand. At least that part of it. I don't know what it's like to lose someone who is half of your being, because I have only ever been one person but...somehow I convinced myself that Jade and Vriska were exceptions. Even though I knew better and that it doesn't matter how long or short a person has been here in the grand scheme of things.

[Nodding again with the words, he can't even bring himself to smile a little. Sitting on the edge of Karkat's bed, Vani just rubs his face again.]

I felt him disappear. We're connected, so I've always been aware of his presence in this world.

Oh. [John rubs at his upper arm again. Suddenly his own example just seems petty in comparison. Maybe he shouldn't have said anything about Jade or Vriska. He nudges an upended something away with his foot, clearing a place to sit on the floor in front of Vanitas.]

Mmm...well I guess on the plus side, you will know when he's back before anybody else!

He'll fear and hate me again. [Maybe that's more of what will hurt than Ventus returning without memories at all. Moving some trash to help clear a space, he just draws his feet up and sets his chin on top of his knees.]

Oh. [Awkward. John drums his fingers on the floor.] Well you got past that this time, right? If you've done it once before, I don't see why you couldn't manage it a second time!

It was his choice to try and befriend me, and given I thought it was a stupid idea, I'm not sure if he'd try it again. The memories of how I became the way I am now aren't there. [At least, that's his underlying fear. Being forgotten as who he is now.]

Well just reverse it then! You be the one to extend the hand of friendship this time. It might take a little time but that doesn't mean it's impossible.

[Sounds simple enough to him.]

I highly doubt he will trust me being the one to extend my hand.

[John sighs.]

You have people to back you up though, yeah? I'm just saying dude... if you keep a negative attitude about this then, yeah, it's going to go badly. You just need to keep a positive frame of mind.

It's hard. [Vanitas can't help a little snort at that, cracking a wry sort of smile.]

I was made of Ventus' negative emotions, after all.

...oh. Err...

[He just keeps putting his foot in his mouth here, doesn't he? And there is no way to backpedal out of this one.]

Don't worry about it. [Snorting, looking much more amused this time, he shakes his head.] It's a bit of a shitty excuse, using my past, isn't it.

Well... I don't know that I would say it's shitty. Maybe a little weak though. Because while the past is important, it's not all there is. Things change, people change, and sometimes you can be surprised by how things go.

If you're made of negative emotions, than it's perfectly understandable that you would struggle with staying positive. But that doesn't mean that that's all you will ever be! It just means you have to work a little harder at optimism than some people. [He shrugs.] Everyone has things they are bad at.

[Overall, the words make sense. It winds up making him smile again at least, because he's going to lean and lightly thunk his forehead to John's shoulder.] Yeah. That sounds like something Ventus would say, but with more logic than just believing I'll get there someday.

[But it's appreciated, nonetheless.]

Hehe. Oh no, I really am spending too much time with Rose! I am becoming logical, the horror. [Clearly it's not actually a horror. John giggles and pats Vanita's back.]

Everything will be okay in the end, dude. If it's not, then just remember that that means it's obviously not the end yet. It's natural to worry when it comes to things like this. But you're a strong, smart guy. You will get through it.

Logic dictates where the kindness goes and keeps you from being so kind it makes you blind.

[He still chuckles, but he's definitely much calmer, and honestly feeling much better about the situation.] I can only say I hope so. Thanks.
