Trainers with Aerodactyls. Did any of you manage to get yours to quit snapping at everything in sight, or is this something I'm going to have to figure out on my own?

[Staring into the screen, Vanitas looks all sorts of nonchalant today, despite the ancient dinosaur with wings having a mouthful of forearm in her jaws. She's a bit smaller than an Aerodactyl is supposed to be, but it certainly doesn't change the annoyed snarl from her face. Really, he's just calling it a baby tantrum; she didn't like that he reached down in the way of her food and took a chomp.

Why the hell does he look like it doesn't hurt? When Sharon growls and tries to grind her teeth more, all she manages is to tear his sleeve a bit and reveal that there is a heavily hammered steel gauntlet beneath the fabric, and while the teeth aren't getting through, they're starting to leave some nasty dents.]

Anyway, the Pewter gym looks like it'll be easy as hell. It's a rock type gym, right? I guess we'll see if I get surprised at all or not; I did underestimate Celadon's gym once.

[Sharon doesn't like this 'being ignored' thing, and growls louder, gnashing her teeth against the steel.] Gnaw all you want, you big baby. You're not breaking through it, not with how many layers I melted into that thing.

.. Maybe, yeah, I didn't think of that. She had teeth when she hatched, but maybe in the back some are coming in? [He'd be taking a minute to try prying the Aerodactyls mouth open to see now, but oh. She commented on the armor. It actually makes him crack a smile now, shifting his arm as if wanting to take a minute to show it off more, but Sharon just growls louder and gnaws.]

Yeah, you think so? Made it myself.

Aw...is it itchy or painful, little miss? [ yeah, she's going to just. coo a little at the giant dragon bird thing. ]

Wow, are you a blacksmith? It looks like it'd be really handy especially uh.... [ she watches her gnaw. ] Especially for that.

[Sharon snarls, what are words for this little miss, right? Instead, she just lifts her hands and holds her trainer's arm in place, aggressively clamping her jaws multiple times.]

I.. yeah, I guess I am now. Self taught over the last year and a half. It comes in handy more often than not, though I make a few weapons now too.

[ talking about weapons and armor is much too distracting for her to notice his vicious animal not responding to words. ]

Really? That's incredible! And here I thought no one used armor and weapons in this world! It's so silly, if there are bandits why did they take away our weapons! [ she clasps her hands together and just kind of stares into the video intensely, he has her respect and admiration. and possibly some sparkles. ]

Heh, Pokemon are still the main firepower here. I just like having something to continue my training with, and armor has helped in situations like this. [Shifts his arm a bit to imply which situation, but honestly that admiration is boosting his ego.]

By bandits, I'm guessing you mean Team Rocket?

But what if they surround you? Flaming Rabbit is good but if I'm surrounded I'd feel better if I had my fan with me. [ animal companions had always been more of just a nice bonus back home. ]

...I guess if you didn't have that you might not have that arm anymore. [ headtilt. should she be worried? but he's not screeching in pain or anything so she assumes it's all good. ]

Oh, right. That was the name of the bandits. [ she forgets these things. ]

Once your Pokemon get stronger, you really won't need to worry about getting surrounded. So you fought with a fan?

[The comment makes him chuckle though, and after another growl from Sharon, a small blue and yellow mouse comes creeping up over Vanitas' shoulder. With a chitter and a look from his trainer, the Minun goes scampering down his arm to sit on Sharon's nose; the Aerodactyl doesn't particularly like it, but she quiets and the continuous gnawing stops. She doesn't let go, but it doesn't go any further.]

Yeah. They're not really an easy group to take out in one swing since they've been established long before any of us arrived in this world, but lots of people have been trying to take out the more active members who show up on the network and taunt.

I'd just feel better if I could protect my partners as well. [ and she just likes...beating people by herself, it's what she's used to. ]

Yep! One or two fans...and sometimes other things. Sometimes you just have to pick up whatever's lying around, you know?

[ she watches curiously, that small one's really cute too... and apparently the boss of giant death bird/dragon pokemon. ] Oh!

[ team rocket, right. Xiaoqiao isn't innately righteous or anything like that. she just wants to be able to defend herself in the absence of...other people looking out for her. ] ...huh? Oh, I don't want to beat them or anything, not unless I have to. It's not really my business to try to do something like that in a world I don't understand.

Understandable enough. [He remembers when his Altaria was just a newly hatched Swablu, a tiny little blue and white fluffy thing, and yeah. He understands that want to protect well enough now.]

Were they normal fans? Or ones with metal insides, rather than paper?

Mm...when I use double fans they have just a metal frame that's covered with fabric. When I use a single steel war frame it's made entirely of steel. [ she makes a flicking motion with her wrist, a familiar twitch that she misses. ]

Oh! Do you think you might be able to make either? I have some money from working but how much would it cost to commission that kind of thing?

[He's quiet for a few minutes, mostly thinking, trying to see in his mind just how the fans would be put together; where would he weld the steel together, where would he leave it sharp?]

I can try and see if I can figure it out. Don't worry about money, it might not even turn out all that great. What's your name? I can give you a call when I think I've got something.

Oh, thank you! [ if she wasn't sparkling before she is now. ] I'd be thankful no matter how it turned out!

[ if it's metal and she can hit people with it, she's good. ]

I'm Xiaoqiao, how about you, Master Blacksmith? [ fyi, if she doesn't get a name she's just calling him that. heck, she might call him that sometimes anyways. ]

[He actually puffs up with a bit of pride at being called Master Blacksmith, cracking a bit of a smile at that.]

Vanitas. Nice to meet you. I'll see what I can do with the fans, though I'm thinking the steel one will be made first, since I've got plenty of steel to work with. It's the nice part about having two Skarmory who shed steel feathers, you know?

It's an honour, Master Vanitas! [ she is not afraid to stroke people's egos if she can gain friends of free things from it! ]

A skarmory? Oh, you mean the shiny pointy bird! There are so many incredible creatures here! [ she wants to take them all home. ]

[Master Vanitas? Wow. He's almost wanting to correct her, to say she doesn't need to call him that, but it sounds so.. good. So he doesn't. It just brings a real smile to his face finally.]

Yeah, there are. What's your favorite kind that you've met or worked with so far? Or do you only have your starter? [She seems new enough. The Minun removes himself from Sharon's snout finally though, and it seems some unsaid words happened, because the Aerodactyl finally is letting go with a displeased rumble.]

[ he's a craftsman! clearly he should be called Master Vanitas! ]

Um...I have Xiao'yu, my starter, and Flaming Rabbit! [ species name, Xiaoqiao...learn them. ]

Xiao'yu is a...fish like pokemon? And Flaming Rabbit is a pony! [ -ta ] Oh and I have a lion, dog egg hatching!

Want to show me them? I can tell you what their species name is, and if I've raised one myself, some tips on making them strong enough.

Oh! That'd be great help! Especially Xiao'yu...I've never had to train something fish like before... So even though I'm confident I'll be fine with Flaming Rabbit I'm kind of worried about Xiao'yu.

[ aaand with that she's taking the gear with her to the bathroom. because Xiao'yu is resting in the filled tub. say hi to the feebas? ]

That's Xiao'yu.

A Feebas. They're actually way better than Magikarp, if only in that they learn more than splash. You shouldn't have much trouble getting it to level up and get stronger. I would say avoid grass or electric types though, since water types are weak to those two. They're excellent against rock, ground and fire types, and can put up a decent fight against ice and steel types.

I think that one evolves through the use of an item, but you'll have to ask someone else about that, since I don't have one myself.

I...think I understand. [ maybe, if she thinks of it purely in terms of elements it makes sense. it's just when she thinks of fish vs. flaming horses...it makes much less sense. ]

Um...evolve is when they get really big, right? I'll be sure to ask someone about that!

Yeah. They evolve into a Pokemon called Milotic. [Picking up his pokedex, he shows the device to her.] You have one of these too. If you type in the name, or point the camera at a Pokemon, it'll give you more information and a name.

[ she stares at that picture for a moment. a loooong moment. ]

That...looks nothing like her. [ she looks into the tub where Xiao'yu is just drifting along. ]

Oh yeah, I've been doing the pointy thing but it's hard to remember all the names... and I'm still getting used to typing.

You probably don't have to evolve her if you don't want to, or if she doesn't want to. Evolution just makes them stronger, but some Pokemon don't want to change.

Heh, it took me a while to get used to it too. It's easier in some cases than talking.

[ ...why wouldn't she want to? she's pretty useless as she is-- but she looks down at the feebas swimming in the tub again. ]

I guess I'll just let her decide, I don't know what's best for her. These pokemon creatures aren't very much like the animals I'm familiar with.
