Hey. Network, I need some ideas, I guess.

[There's a bit of a pause, hesitating, but it eventually.. awkwardly comes out.]

Is there something special I'm supposed to get Karkat for Christmas? Or am I supposed to treat it like just another gift giving holiday? And if you know him well enough, what kind of Pokemon do you think he would like that he doesn't already have.

[This is why this is audio only. He was tempted to use text, but that would be easier to hack, so audio it is........ not like this isn't really easy to hack, but he knows well enough that Karkat can't hack things for shit.]

You're getting him something for Christmas, it should definitely be something special then. It's a special holiday, so you should try to get something that'll really say how much you appreciate them.

You got some ideas of what he likes? Like, hobbies or interests? Stuff like that.

audio; slightly improved, yet still shitty lock

I wouldn't say there is a particular something special that you need to get him, but no, you can't just treat it like a normal holiday with the person you are dating. Even if they are an alien and don't technically celebrate Christmas.

Romantic comedies?

...Does this world have any decent ones? Everything's all been 'mon-i-fied I thought. But, I'm not all that up on Romance movies. Uhh... You could ask somebody at a video store if they think anything is really good? It might help.

Oh. That's cool. You guys must be close, then. Good on ya. Considerin' what I remember about you tellin' me about you, it's great that you managed to make a good friend.

He like any kinds'a music?
ghostytrainer: (smile for the camera!)

[aaahhhh, the days of being new to relationships. John remembers those days and just thinking that kind of made him feel like an old man, wow wtf. Stopping that train of thought there.]

Hehe, well we all have to start somewhere! Trust me, it gets easier the longer you stick with it. Sometimes, there are even striking moments of clarity where suddenly everything makes sense. [One day, Vanitas. One day you will understand.]

But here's my suggestion. Focus less on something to get him and more on something to do for him. Not saying you shouldn't get him a present or anything, but maybe go for something small and simple as sort of a sideline to the main event. Never underestimate the power of a nice, romantic gesture. Especially with someone like Karkat.

Go for something atypical then. Like...if you usually go out for said meals, try making something yourself instead. Or maybe food entirely. The last thing you want to do is fall into a boring, predictable pattern.

I'm guessing he probably makes you watch his romcoms with him? You might want to try watching a few on your own, they honestly aren't a bad place to fish around for ideas. Actually...in Karkat's case, recreating a scene from one of his favorites probably wouldn't be a half bad idea. Though I would say it's probably better to get him to describe a troll movie and try and work with that. The stuff here isn't terrible but it's just not the same, especially to a movie buff. [There's a reason John doesn't watch as many movies here as he did back home.]

audio; we're just not cool like that

[John doesn't always earn people's respect; but when he does, you had better believe it's in meter form.]

Nothing wrong with that, at least it's something. With a little practice I bet you could learn how to make something simple. Hell, probably even a better than simple since you have a whole month to practice. And honestly, taste doesn't matter as much as the fact that it's something you did for him. If it sucks, oh well. Live, learn, and laugh it off as you order pizza.

[That's true love, right there.]

I really think you can't go wrong with something out of a movie though.

[This guy's got no experience whatsoever in this field, but, dang, he wants to help out!]

Well, if you're at a city or town by then, perhaps you could check and see if there are any festivals or whatnot that they're hosting? An all-day date on Christmas day's pretty romantic.

Do you cook at all?

[OH YEAH TOTALLY]

If you want to do something special, you could cook something or take him out for dinner. I'd walk you through using an oven, but it's easier if I was to show you in person, which I'm sadly nowhere near where you two might be. Anywho, Christmas dinner out may require you to call ahead to wherever you want to go and reserve a seat. I've been told that restaurants tend to be packed if it's a popular place to go on that day.

If you want to try something new, I could see about sending a recipe or two he might like. Though, I'm honestly not sure what Karkat likes to begin with.

Haha, I don't blame you for the mistake! The two of us could pass as twins, really! I'm Jake English, it's a pleasure to meet you.

Hm, maybe there's a recipe out there for it?

[Jake switches the feed on his, too. It takes a second for the click to happen in his brain.]

You do look kind of like Sora, now that I think about it.

I'll take your word for it. It's a little confusing to explain how John and I look similar, so we'll chalk it down to the same thing. We're related in a way.

[Ectobiology is weird okay.]
